Purpose
The Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club (CGMRC) is one of the oldest and most renowned model railroad organizations in the Pacific Northwest. Its mission is to promote the art and science of model railroading while preserving and celebrating the rail history of the Columbia River Gorge and the Pacific Northwest region. The club provides an immersive environment for hobbyists to share techniques, operate trains, and engage with the public through large-scale exhibitions that capture the beauty and complexity of real rail operations.

Frequency of Meetings/Events
Members meet weekly to maintain, operate, and enhance the club’s sprawling HO-scale layout. The highlight of the year is the Annual Open House, held each November, which attracts thousands of visitors. During these events, the layout comes alive with multiple trains running simultaneously, complete with realistic scenery, lighting, and sound systems.

The club’s permanent home is located at 2505 North Vancouver Avenue in Portland, Oregon. This facility houses one of the largest permanent HO-scale model railroads in the United States, covering over 4,500 square feet and depicting the Columbia River Gorge with stunning topographic accuracy.
Outreach Activities
The Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club engages deeply with the community through educational outreach, hosting school visits, group tours, and special museum partnerships. The club promotes STEM learning through hands-on workshops focused on electronics, wiring, design, and historical research. Cost to Join/Participate

Membership Requirements
