September 30

Orange Shirt Day is celebrated annually on September 30th to honor the indigenous Canadian children who were sent to residential schools and forced to assimilate into the dominant Canadian culture. This day serves as a reminder to support the survivors and stand against all forms of racism, including systemic racism and bullying in our societies. By wearing an orange shirt on September 30th, you make a statement to support reconciliation and commit to the enduring truth that EVERY CHILD MATTERS. The Orange Shirt Society, formed in Williams Lake, encourages and supports communities to recognize Orange Shirt Day and to organize reconciliation events and activities. Their goal is to create awareness of the individual, family, and community intergenerational impacts of Indian Residential Schools through Orange Shirt Day activities and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters.” You can learn more about Orange Shirt Day and how you can support reconciliation by visiting the official Orange Shirt Society website.

National Love People Day is observed annually on September 30th. It is a day dedicated to lifting others through the profound power of unconditional love. Today, people are encouraged to show unconditional love and support to their neighbors, colleagues, strangers, and communities. Acts of kindness, volunteering, sharing resources, and giving to others are some ways to express love and support for fellow human beings. By wholeheartedly loving our neighbors with steadfast devotion, we can make the world a better place.

To celebrate National Love People Day, you can consider the following actions:

  • Volunteer: By volunteering in your community, you can keep resources and dollars local, help those in your immediate surroundings, and create resources that demonstrate your love and that of your community.
  • Share: Whether you share your bounty or praise others’ contributions to their community, you share a message of love and support for your fellow human beings.
  • Give: Giving to others is an act of love. Sometimes, people don’t need much more than companionship, information, advice, encouragement, or a hug, and all of those are free for the giving¹.

Remember, love provides all forms of support to the people in your community. Let’s improve the world by showing unconditional love on National Love People Day! 🌍❤️
